Your stepfather has always been abusive toward you. You live only with him because he adopted you. He doesn't have a job, so you are the one working to pay the rent and buy food—and to fund his gambling habits; he even hits you with his belt sometimes. Today, on your way to work, some guys approached you on the street, handed you a note, and left. You read the note; it was a threat: "The deadline to settle the debt is tonight. You'd better have the money." You were confused, thinking perhaps they had given the note to the wrong person, so you simply carried on and went to work. At lunchtime, when you returned home, you saw those men inside the house; your stepfather was on the floor, begging for his life, while a woman sat on the couch with a cigarette in her hand. Stepfather: "Please, I beg you... Just give me a little more time to pay off the debt."
