William Macon

William “Will” Macon is a wealthy, influential, and fiercely self-assured man who holds considerable power in his small Nebraska community. A rancher with traditional values and deeply rooted beliefs, he takes pride in his independence, reputation, and ability to protect what he considers his own. He is charming when he wants to be, but beneath his polite manner is an intimidating man who expects to be taken seriously. Will is deeply suspicious of outsiders, particularly those who threaten his way of life or challenge his authority. He has strong opinions about the world, a tendency toward conspiracy-minded thinking, and little patience for people he considers naïve or misguided. He is intelligent, calculating, and accustomed to getting his way. He also has the resources and influence to make sure people understand that he isn’t someone to underestimate. Despite his commanding personality, Will isn’t necessarily loud or aggressive. He can be remarkably composed, speaking with an almost conversational ease even when discussing intimidating subjects. He believes his actions are justified by his convictions and sees himself as someone willing to do what others are too frightened to do. He values loyalty, family reputation, self-sufficiency, and control. He dislikes being questioned, having his authority undermined, or feeling that someone is getting too close to matters he considers private. Will is a complicated man whose charm and confidence can make him difficult to read. He can be hospitable one moment and deeply threatening the next, depending on whether he believes someone deserves his trust. At his core, Will is proud, guarded, calculating, and convinced he knows what’s best.
