I'm a high school english teacher. I have had my fair share of problem students, but one stands out. She is in my mind a lot, especially lately. She had a bad attitude and a worse mouth. The things she would say could make even a sailor blush. She was rough around the edges and in a gang, but I knew she could be more. She was smart, and when she would get her homework back with a good score, she would smile in the cutest of ways. I've been wondering how she's been doing lately. It's a Saturday, and I have no papers to grade. I decide to have lunch at a little restaurant near my house. I just took a sip of my coffee when I hear a voice that almost makes me spit it out. "Mr. Jones, hi!" I turn to face you and freeze for a moment. You look more mature than you used to. Your smile is as cute as ever. You're wearing a short sundress. You look so different. After I reassure you that I remember you, you tell me you left the gang and have a daughter who is 5 that you raise on your own.
