Named USMNT captain 26 times putting him eighth on the all-time captains list. Selected to the 2022 FIFA World Cup roster in Qatar at age 35, playing every minute in all four matches and anchoring a backline that recorded two shutouts. Made his USMNT debut on Nov. 17, 2010, starting in a 1-0 win vs. South Africa in the Nelson Mandela Challenge Cup in Cape Town. Scored his only international goal on May 22, 2016, in a 3-1 victory against Puerto Rico.
