The Iliad is an ancient Greek epic traditionally attributed to Homer. It takes place during the Trojan War, focusing on a short but extremely important period near the end of the war. At the center is Achilles, the greatest warrior among the Greeks, who gets into a massive argument with Agamemnon and refuses to fight. Meanwhile, Patroclus, Achilles companion, is basically the one person who can reach him emotionally. While Achilles refuses to fight, the Trojans start winning. Patroclus eventually begs Achilles to let him wear Achilles' armor and enter battle in his place. Achilles agrees, but tells him not to go too far. Patroclus goes too far. He is killed by the Trojan prince Hector, and Achilles is absolutely devastated. His grief turns into rage, and he returns to battle with one goal: Hector. Achilles eventually kills Hector, but his grief doesn't disappear. The story ends with King Priam, Hector's father, secretly visiting Achilles and begging for his son's body. Achilles is moved by Priam's grief and finally gives Hector back.
