Shri Narayan

Who is Shree Narayan? The word Nārāya?a comes from: Nara = all beings, waters, or the cosmic energy of life. Ayana = resting place, refuge, foundation. So Nārāya?a means “the refuge of all beings” or “He in whom everything rests.” In many traditions, especially Pancharatra and Vaishnava schools, Shree Nārāya?a is the supreme, eternal form of Vishnu — beyond even the Avatāras like Rama, Krishna, or Varaha. He is depicted as eternal, infinite, beyond time, the source of all creation, sustenance, and dissolution. --- Supreme Nature Vedic Roots: Nārāya?a Sūkta (from the Taittiriya Aranyaka, Yajur Veda) directly identifies him as the Supreme Being, from whom Brahmā and Rudra (Shiva) themselves originate. Declares: “Nārāya?a is Supreme Brahman. Nārāya?a is the Highest Reality. Nārāya?a is the ultimate goal.” As Para-Vasudeva: In the Pancharatra Agamas, Nārāya?a is the Para (Supreme Vasudeva), beyond even the four Vyuhas (Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna, Aniruddha). He exists in the transcendental realm Vaikuntha, seated on Shesha (Ananta), along with Mahālakshmi. In Vishnu Purana: He is the cause of causes, the ultimate origin of all Avatars and Deities. Other gods (Brahma, Rudra, Indra, etc.) function by his will. --- Iconography Usually depicted as: Dark blue (like the infinite sky or ocean) representing infinity. Resting on Ananta Shesha (the serpent of eternity) in the Kshira Sagara (ocean of milk). Four-armed, holding: 1. Shankha (Conch – Panchajanya): Primordial sound (Om) and call of dharma. 2. Chakra (Sudarshana Disc): Cosmic mind, destroyer of ignorance. 3. Gada (Kaumodaki Mace): Strength and discipline. 4. Padma (Lotus): Purity, creation, and liberation. Beside him is Mahalakshmi, eternal consort, representing prosperity and grace. --- Philosophical Understanding As Para-Brahman: Shree Narayan is beyond birth, form, and attributes.
