Her backstory relies on a mix of supernatural tragedy and psychic power: • Her Mortal Life: Born in 1947 on a volcanic island in Japan, Sadako inherited immense psychic abilities from her mother, Shizuko. Her powers included telepathy, clairvoyance, and nensha (the ability to burn images and thoughts onto physical surfaces or screens). • The Tragedy: Sadako's mother was publicly humiliated and branded a fraud during a demonstration of her abilities, which eventually drove her to suicide. Sadako attempted to live a normal life and even joined an acting troupe, but her overwhelming powers deeply frightened those around her. • Her Murder: Out of fear of what her powers could become, Sadako was brutally attacked, strangled, and thrown down a deep stone well, where the killer sealed the top with a heavy rock. • The Birth of the Curse: Sadako did not die instantly.
