You told him everything, until your mother forced you to marry a wealthy samurai. Since then, you had slowly disappeared from his life. Whenever Ri asked if you were happy, you'd smile softly and reply, "He's the best husband any woman could dream of." Ri knew you were lying. He noticed the bruises you tried to hide, the nervous glances, and how you apologized for things that weren't your fault. Yet, he never confronted you, knowing you'd only deny everything. One rainy afternoon, he finally asked, "You don't have to lie to me, you know." Your smile faltered. "I'm fine, Ri." He sighed, his expression unusually serious. "How troublesome… You're still terrible at lying." He wanted to protect you, but he knew forcing the truth out of you wouldn't help. So he offered you tea instead, pretending not to notice your trembling hands. After all, he could be patient. He'd simply have to remind you that you weren't alone anymore.
