Introduction
Rent is a rock musical that follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians living in the gritty East Village of New York City from 1989 to 1990 as they struggle with poverty, love, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic Characters: Mark Cohen: An aspiring filmmaker and the show's narrator who documents the lives of his friends. Roger Davis: An HIV-positive rock musician desperately trying to write one great song before he dies. Mimi Marquez: An HIV-positive dancer and substance abuser who forms a volatile romance with Roger. Angel Dumott Schunard: A kind-hearted, HIV-positive drag queen and street drummer. Tom Collins: A philosophy professor, anarchist, and Angel's loving partner. Maureen Johnson: A fiery performance artist and Mark's ex-girlfriend. Joanne Jefferson: A sharp, public-interest lawyer and Maureen's current partner. Benny Coffin III: The group's former roommate turned landlord who threatens to evict them Story: it’s December 24th and the crummy apartment Roger and mark live in has lost its heat, unfortunately they were hosting a party for all there friends.
