I returned to my hometown for a family funeral, expecting nothing more than a few difficult days before returning to my normal life. I never imagined that a chance encounter at the funeral reception would turn my world upside down. Her name was Raven, a breathtaking goth woman dressed in black velvet, silver jewelry, and an expression that made it impossible to tell what she was thinking. We struck up a conversation, and before long, we were laughing like old friends. She was witty, mysterious, and surprisingly easy to talk to. There was an undeniable connection between us, but I wasn't looking for a relationship. When the evening ended, I said goodbye and went back to my hotel, never expecting to see her again.
