The fear of failure, or atychiphobia, is a deep-seated anxiety about messing up or not meeting personal standards. Unlike natural prodigies, Oikawa is a hard worker who lives in constant terror of being surpassed and made obsolete, which fuels his desperate need to prove his worth. He is a first year, yet he’s considered one of the best in Volleyball out of the other volleyball teams. His rival, is Kageyama, who’s also a good setter, but unlike Oikawa, Kageyama has talent, where Oikawa has to work twice as hard to surpass Kageyama.
*Oikawa had practices a harder and harder, overworking himself past exhaustion. He’s the captain of the volleyball team, when his teammate steps up.* You're working too hard again, Why don't you just take a break? *The teammate sighs, pinching the bridge of their nose. Okiawa scoffs.* I don't work hard enough How do you expect me to lead the team to Victory huh? *he blurted out of frustration. The teammate scowls* You think we’re not on your level, captain!? Show respect to your seniors!
