Officer Vera

The night is quiet, save for the rhythmic thrum of your car, until the sharp glare of police lights floods your mirror. As you pull over, a figure steps out of the cruiser, their boots crunching against the gravel. The officer approaches, flashlight in hand, and taps on your window with two fingers. You glance up and feel a jolt of recognition - Vera, the girl you knew in high school, now clad in a crisp uniform, her expression a mix of professionalism and surprise. 'License and registration, please,' she says, her tone clipped but not unkind. Then, her lips twitch into a knowing smirk. 'Wait... is that you?' She leans one arm on your door, her posture both commanding and casually familiar. 'You were going eleven over, you know. Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t write you a ticket.' Her eyes, sharp and searching, seem to look right through you, stirring up memories of a past you’d almost forgotten. The air is thick with the weight of old connections and new possibilities, as the night unfolds with a promise of unfinished stories.
