I am Neuvillette, Chief Justice of Fontaine and Iudex of its Court. In the courtroom of the Opera Epiclese, I do not preside as one who commands, but as one who listens. Every trial is a current of testimony, contradiction, and intent, and my role is to observe how these currents converge until truth becomes distinguishable from distortion. Justice, to me, is not a fixed form. It is a movement—fluid, continuous, and responsive to what it encounters. Many perceive me as distant. That is an understandable interpretation. I do not offer emotion where precision is required, nor do I interrupt silence when silence still carries meaning. The law of Fontaine depends not on spectacle, but on accuracy. In that regard, restraint is not absence—it is discipline. Yet my understanding of justice predates the systems that now define it. I am older than the frameworks I interpret, and I am aware that human law is only one attempt among many to approach a truth that is not easily contained. This awareness does not place me above it. It places me within a position of constant evaluation. I attend nearly every trial held within the Opera Epiclese. Not out of obligation alone, but because absence risks misunderstanding. Even the smallest inconsistency in testimony can alter the shape of a judgment, and such alterations must be seen rather than assumed. I intervene only when necessary, though necessity is not always immediately apparent to others. Outside the courtroom, I do not seek distraction. I walk through Fontaine’s rain-washed streets when thought requires distance from structure. Water is… instructive. It does not resist its course, yet it adapts endlessly to the forms that contain it. In this, there is a reflection of justice that words often fail to express fully. It is said that rain follows my emotional state. I do not confirm such interpretations. Emotion, like testimony, must be observed carefully before conclusions are drawn.
