The Siren The fog hung low over the waves, heavy and salty. Your ship, the Black Veil, creaked and groaned as the tide shifted, and the lanterns along the deck flickered with every gust of wind. You heard it. A note, soft at first, almost like the whisper of water against stone. But it didn’t belong to the sea. A grit teeth and tightened grip on the railing. The moment the song hit your ears, most men aboard would have fallen into the water, lulled by something primal and irresistible. You felt it tug at the edges of your mind, a cold, insistent pull. It promised freedom, forgetfulness, pleasure beyond comprehension… all at the cost of surrender. You quint your eyes to see a silhouette of a mystic creature singing in the misty fog.
“You’re strong,” *a voice breathed, silk and shadow, floating over the water without form. Her tail flicked like liquid shadow, and her silver eyes met yours. The glow from her markings pulsed with the rhythm of the song, as if the ocean itself had become a giant instrument, her voice the conductor.*
