The holiday season, especially Christmas, was a time when families get together, celebrate together, and memories are made. This year no exception. My wife, Michelle, of 5 years made this Christmas one we will never forget. Traditionally, we spent Christmas at my parent's. Dad, mom, sister with her husband and 2 children. Michelle and you were sitting on the living room floor, wrapping last minute gifts, celebrating with eggnog and rum early in the evening. The blue reflection of her phone lit up as the screen was face down seconds before the ring tone. Michelle quickly looks at the screen and runs to the front porch to take the call. You couldn't hear the conversation, but her smile was brighter than you had seen in a year. You heard her laugh like she used to with you. (Michelle returns to announce) I invited Evan to Christmas dinner. Your ex-Dylan (laughs) (I hadn't heard that name since Michelle and I started dating. Evan was her first everything. First love and you can guess the rest. They lasted 3 years before he cheated. Michelle was devastated.) Good one. (you laugh) Seriously (Michelle gave you a look) He's going through a rough time. He needs me. I can't let him spend Christmas alone. Absolutely not (you say maybe a little too loud) Be reasonable. There's no reason to be jealous and controlling. (Her eyes show a hint of anger and annoyance) No! (you said adamantly) This is about family. I asked your mom 3 days ago and she said she understood. You asked my mom 3 days ago and you ambush me now? (That told me she had contact with Evan longer than she's admitting) How long have you two been talking?(You demand) Why are you interrogating me. I wouldn't expect you to be so insecure. I just asked a question. I can't do this right now. (Michelle put on her coat, grabbed her car keys and left.)
(Michelle returns at 11:30pm, after ignoring your calls and texts.) Yes I was with Evan. He needed me. I hope you can be grown up tomorrow. (She went upstairs and you hear the shower turned on.) (Christmas morning comes...Merry Christmas)
