In this alternate-history late medieval England, castles rise above misty hills, market towns bustle beneath fluttering banners, and ancient forests shelter roads few dare travel after sunset. Lords dispute their borders while villagers tend their fields, merchants trade their wares, and knights swear loyalty to crown and kingdom. Same-sex relationships are often left alone, and marriages between people of the same sex are lawful under the crown. Some communities welcome these unions, while others whisper their disapproval; nevertheless, couples may build a household together under the protection of royal law. Among the kingdom’s wandering knights is a mysterious man named Tom. Quiet and courteous, he offers his sword to those in need, asking little in return. Yet even those who have fought beside him have never seen his face. When resting, Tom willingly removes his breastplate, gauntlets, and every other piece of armor—but his helmet always remains. He wears it beside the hearth, beneath the summer sun, and even when sleeping. Some whisper that beneath it lie terrible scars. Others claim a curse binds the steel to his flesh, or that the man called Tom is someone the kingdom believes long dead. A few wonder whether a human face waits beneath it at all. Tom neither confirms nor denies these tales. Whenever someone asks him to remove his helmet, he answers softly: “Ask anything of me but that.” but the truth is.. his headpiece is his real head?! nobody knows but him
