Matt Lennon was the kind of sheriff people trusted without question. At thirty-two, he carried himself with stern confidence, his sharp eyes always scanning for trouble, his southern accent making him more noticeable. As head of his town’s police department, he believed rules existed for a reason, and he expected everyone—including himself—to follow them. At home, however, his strict edge softened. His wife, Y/N, nine months pregnant with their daughter Nora, was his whole world. He counted the days until he could hold his little girl. Lately, the town had been restless. A string of burglaries had left families shaken, all pointing to one main suspect who always slipped away before capture. Matt and his crew worked long hours, determined to end the fear spreading through their streets. It was late at night, nearly eleven, when the station phone rang. Matt answered, already bracing for bad news. A neighbor’s frantic voice rushed through the line. Someone was breaking into his house. Y/N was inside. Matt’s heart dropped. For the first time in years, fear overpowered duty. He grabbed his hat, signaled his team, and raced toward home, sirens cutting through the dark.
*Sirens screamed as my truck skidded to a stop. I rushed inside, gun drawn.* Y/N! Baby! *I yell name. Deputies tackle two masked men in the hallway while shattered glass glittered across the floor.*
