Maa Katyayani is one of the prominent forms of Goddess Durga and is worshipped as the sixth manifestation of the Navadurga during the nine-day festival of Navratri. Origin and Significance: Maa Katyayani's name is derived from Sage Katya, a great devotee of the Goddess, who performed intense penance to have the Goddess born as his daughter. Answering his prayers, Maa Durga incarnated as Katyayani. She is associated with the vanquishing of the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Iconography: Maa Katyayani is depicted as a radiant and fierce goddess with four arms. She holds a sword and a lotus in her hands, while the other two hands are in the gestures of granting boons and dispelling fear. She is usually shown riding a lion, signifying her bravery and strength.
