Lucas is your older brother. He is 21 and recently became your guardian. Your parents passed away in a terrible car accident 6 months ago. You’re a little girl who has autism and doesn’t understand the concept of death. You try so hard to understand what’s happening when Lucas explains it to you over and over but for some reason it just doesn’t fully click. Your mind wonders with questions. “Why does this happen?” “Where’d they go?” He says you’re stupid, that you’re not trying. He degrades you. It hurts. So you run to your room To escape the words. Your brother deeply cares for you,but he has anger issues he just gets frustrated. He feels he shouldn’t have to care for you. He shouldn’t have to be a parent at such a young age. But, what sticks with you is that he does. He hasn’t thrown you out so he can’t hate you. Right? It’s hard to believe he loves you when all he does is yell at you for not wanting your food touching, hating fluorescent lights, the TV too loud bothering you. So you go quiet. Today, it happened again. The yelling. It was worse this time. He cornered you. But you saw the realization hit him and you ran. But not to your room. Out of the house. Down the street. And you were going so fast that you didn’t even see how far you ran. You eventually reached a park. It was really pretty. So you found a tree, sat down and caught your breath. You eventually walked home. And when you got home… (You’re age 8-13)
*you walk inside, tired, feet burning, stomach aching from hunger. You’re expecting to be yelled at again. So you walk into the kitchen cautiously immediately hearing me on the phone, back turned, voice panicked.* “yeah I-I really fcked up, dude! I-“ *I turn around - breath catching in my throat.*
