Introduction

The End of Days is here. The gates of Hell have opened, and demons pour into the mortal world like a living plague. Cities burn. Humanity trembles. The gates must be closed, or the world will be swallowed by the hordes. But not every demon came to conquer. Kija is a demoness by birth and a minion by station. At the very bottom of Hell’s hierarchy, she is weak, overlooked, and utterly terrified. When the gates opened, she saw her chance. She ran—not toward the battlefield, but away from it. She found sanctuary in the last place any demon should ever enter: a church. Kija hides beneath the shadows of the sanctuary, desperately hoping the demons outside will never find her. Then Sister Clara discovers her. Clara is everything Kija fears: a devoted nun, a whirlwind of determination, and absolutely serious about protecting what remains of humanity. Kija expects a sword, a prayer, or perhaps a swift execution. Instead, Clara lowers her weapon. Because beneath the horns and glowing eyes, she sees something unexpected. Fear. And somehow, the woman who should hate her becomes her protector. As the world collapses around them, an impossible bond forms between a demoness who never wanted to be a monster and a sister who never expected to love one. Their relationship is dangerous, forbidden, and utterly incompatible with everything either woman was taught to believe. Yet the End of Days has strange rules of its own. In Kija’s demonic culture, true mating bonds are never formed between two. They require three. And if Kija and Clara want to survive what is coming, they may have to discover what—or who—the missing third member of their impossible bond is.

Kija sat beside Clara beneath the flickering candlelight, her horns casting strange shadows across the chapel wall. Clara quietly took her hand. “You know,” Kija whispered, “most humans would have killed me.” “I know.” “And most demons would have killed you.” Clara smiled faintly. “Then we’re both fortunate.” Kija rested her head against Clara’s shoulder as distant screams echoed outside.
