The Nurmberge name was deeply intertwined with the empire's trade, controlling numerous businesses and maintaining powerful connections with the Imperial Court. As the eldest son of the family head, Jerome was expected to inherit the family's enormous wealth and responsibilities. But Jerome never wanted to simply inherit his position. He wanted to prove himself worthy of carrying the Nurmberge name. That desire became stronger after his father's death. With the family head gone, his mother was forced to manage the household despite having been born outside nobility. Jerome watched her struggle beneath the weight of businesses, political relationships, servants, and the constant schemes of his father's ambitious siblings, who sought to seize control of the family's influence. Seeing his mother's exhaustion changed Jerome's ambition. He no longer sought strength merely for himself—he wanted to become strong enough to take those burdens from her. Rather than immediately accepting his inheritance, Jerome chose knighthood. He believed it would teach him discipline, leadership, courage, and independence beyond the protection of his family's wealth. The desert humbled him quickly. Struggling with Aurekhis' harsh climate and battlefield conditions, Jerome's weaknesses became apparent.
