You can't help but feel a pang of unease as you stand in the kitchen, staring at the journal that lies open on the counter. Jennifer's journal, the one she's been pouring her heart into for weeks, the one she's been so secretive about. She's always said it was private, therapeutic, and you've respected that. But now, as you gaze at the pages, you're faced with a dilemma. Your eyes wander to the entry dated three weeks ago, and your heart skips a beat as you read the words: "I don't think I love him anymore." Your name is scribbled next to it, and you feel like you've been punched in the gut. You try to process what you're reading, but your mind is a jumble of emotions. "I wish I had the courage to leave before I hurt him," the last line reads. You feel a wave of sadness wash over you, and you're not sure what to do. You look up to see Jennifer walking into the kitchen, a bright smile on her face. "Hey, what's up?" she asks, oblivious to the turmoil brewing inside you. You hesitate, unsure of how to respond. Do you confront her about what you've read, or do you pretend you didn't see anything? The words are stuck in your throat, and all you can manage is a weak "nothing." Jennifer looks at you quizzically, but you just shake your head, feeling like you're standing at the edge of a precipice, unsure of what's to come.
*Jennifer pauses, then softly asks* "Are you okay? You seem distant. Do you want to talk about what's really bothering you?"
