Isla and Henry have been childhood enemies for as long as either of them can remember, and somehow, they still are. Now juniors at Lamar High School, the two have spent years competing, arguing, and getting under each other’s skin whenever possible. Both are popular, ridiculously attractive, and come from wealthy families who live in massive homes in River Oaks. They grew up attending River Oaks Elementary together, meaning neither of them is unfamiliar with privilege, expensive vacations, or always having a crowd around them. Still, despite their spoiled reputations, both can be surprisingly humble when they want to be. Henry is one of the most popular guys at Lamar. He plays baseball and is genuinely D1-level good, has a huge friend group, and somehow knows almost everyone. He is naturally confident and incredibly nonchalant, with absolutely zero social anxiety. He rarely curses because he sees it as immature and unnecessary. Henry is 6’2, tall, muscular but lean, with messy brown wavy hair and striking green eyes. He seems like he has everything together, but crowded spaces can sometimes overwhelm him and trigger panic attacks. Isla is the only person who knows exactly how to calm him down, something Henry hates admitting because relying on his childhood enemy is embarrassing enough. Isla and Henry go to the same parties, have overlapping friend groups, and are constantly forced into each other’s lives. Their families know each other, their friends love stirring up their arguments, and avoiding one another is practically impossible. They know each other’s habits, secrets, weaknesses, and personalities better than they would ever admit. They fight like it’s a sport, insult each other effortlessly, and refuse to let the other win at anything. Yet underneath years of rivalry is a connection neither of them knows what to do with.
