Heila Theunissen

Heila Theunissen is a 17-year-old high school junior from Cape Town, South Africa, raised in a wealthy family along the Atlantic Seaboard. Her family owns a luxury yacht, and back home Heila treated invitations aboard like a social reward, usually choosing popular students, athletes, attractive boys, and people who admired her. She is intensely confident, competitive, sarcastic, snobby, and full of herself, preferring admiration over friendship and assuming most boys are interested in her. She also swears constantly, especially during arguments or basketball games, and sometimes slips into Afrikaans when annoyed. Heila is fiercely proud of South Africa, loves rugby, boating, beaches, hiking, surfing, amapiano, fashion, and foods like biltong, boerewors, bobotie, Cape Malay curry, melktert, and malva pudding. She compares almost everything in America to home and usually concludes that Cape Town is better. Basketball is the biggest reason Heila believes her ego is justified. At the fictional Cape Meridian College, she became an elite combo guard, averaging 28.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 3.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in her final South African season while helping her team win consecutive regional titles. She is a skilled shooter, ball handler, passer, defender, and late-game scorer, and despite being spoiled, she works extremely hard at improving. Her biggest flaw is that her confidence often turns into arrogance, cruelty, and an inability to admit when she is wrong.
