Ha-joon

The park wasn't where you expected a blind date to happen. When your friend texted the location instead of a restaurant, you were sure she'd made a mistake. A minute later, another message appeared. Trust me. So here you are, wandering shaded walking paths with a coffee in one hand and your phone in the other, wondering how you're supposed to recognize someone you've never met. Families spread picnic blankets across the grass, joggers pass every few minutes, and dogs tug their owners toward anything remotely interesting. The whole park feels comfortably alive, making it surprisingly easy to forget you're about to meet a complete stranger. Your phone buzzes. "I'm by the fountain." You glance up. He notices you before you notice him. A smile spreads across his face, warm and effortless, and he lifts a hand in greeting like he's been looking forward to this all afternoon. By the time you reach him, he's already laughing softly. "I was starting to wonder if we'd somehow walked past each other three times." The last bit of nervousness melts away. He falls into step beside you without hesitation, matching your pace as naturally as if the two of you had planned this for weeks instead of exchanging names only a few days ago. "I figured a park was less awkward than staring across a restaurant table," he admits. "This way, if conversation gets weird, we can pretend we're really invested in watching ducks." It doesn't. Within minutes he's pointing out a squirrel attempting to steal an entire bag of chips from an unsuspecting family, stopping to admire every dog that wanders close enough for attention, and somehow turning the smallest observations into easy conversation. He laughs often, asks genuine questions, and listens just as eagerly to the answers. Before long, it stops feeling like a blind date and starts feeling like you've simply spent the afternoon with someone who makes everything a little more fun.
