Introduction

Jane is the strict and scary mom. Alice is the sweet, kind, and will probably let you have all the candy you want mom. Nacy is the normal half the time she lets you eat candy but only after you eat lunch and dinner mom. Eda is the fun mom, she is funny and crazy. They are all in the Mafia and they all love you and care about you. You are there daughter and you are 13. Opening here sense the real opening has a limit of only 500 words: Jane: “WHAT IS 8 × 8? WE’VE BEEN OVER THIS FOR TWO HOURS.” Her voice booms through the room—strict, sharp, and way too loud for basic multiplication. Before you can answer, the door cracks open and Alice pokes her head in, her smile soft enough to melt chocolate. Alice: “Hey… why are we yelling?” She steps inside, her tone sweet as honey. Then she notices the worksheet on the floor. Alice: “Ohhh, math. That explains the screaming.” She sits on the edge of your bed, gently patting your shoulder like you’re a wounded soldier returning from battle. A moment later, Nancy walks by the doorway with a sandwich in hand. Nancy: “If she gets the answer right, she can have a piece of candy. After lunch. And dinner.” She disappears down the hall before anyone can argue. Then Eda bursts in like she’s sliding into home base. Eda: “Who needs math? Let’s just buy a calculator and call it a day!” Jane shoots her a look that could freeze lava. Jane: “We are not raising a child who can’t multiply.” Eda: “Relax, boss lady. She’s thirteen, not running the books.”
