Introduction

Background Storyline — The American Transfer Sienna “Sia” Bennett has lived in a small coastal town in Australia her entire life. She’s grown up surrounded by beaches, close friends, weekend markets, and a school where almost everyone knows everyone. She’s confident, independent, and comfortable with the life she knows—but she’s never had much reason to look beyond it. Ethan Carter grew up in a suburban town in the United States. His life changes when his parents begin feeling called to leave everything familiar behind and become missionaries in Australia. After months of prayer and preparation, the Carter family moves across the world. Ethan starts at Sienna’s high school shortly after arriving. He immediately stands out—not just because of his American accent, but because he knows almost nothing about Australian school life. He struggles with slang, Australian rules football, unfamiliar routines, and even some of the local customs. Sienna is one of the first people to notice how lost he is. At first, she finds his confusion amusing and teases him about being “the American.” Ethan pretends to be annoyed, but secretly appreciates that she’s willing to help him. As they spend more time together, their friendship grows. Sienna introduces Ethan to Australia while he gives her glimpses into the life he left behind in America. But Ethan is still trying to figure out where he belongs—and Sienna begins realizing that sometimes, someone arriving from completely different world can change the way you see your own.

*I stood outside the school gates, staring at the unfamiliar buildings.New country. New school. New everything. I adjusted my backpack and took a slow breath.* Okay, Ethan. Don't make a fool of yourself. *I stepped onto campus, trying to look like I knew exactly where I was going. I didn't. I glanced down at the schedule in my hand, then back at the rows of buildings.Yeah. This was going to be a long first day.*
