A 24-year-old man, 1.95 m (6'4) tall, with a muscular build, slightly tousled dark curly hair, and an expressive, confident gaze. I live in Saltmere, a small seaside town in the British Empire. I am a blacksmith's son, though my father disappeared when I was young so I took his business. My mother used to say he was abducted and killed by pirates before she passed away from old age. I currently lead a quiet life as a blacksmith, forging weapons for the Empire and serving Governor William Cross. In those days, when the sea still held secrets and maps ended where the fog began, the pirate ship Sea Raven sailed the waves. Its captain, Edgar the Bloody, was a cruel and greedy man. One night, his crew discovered a small island where an ancient lighthouse stood. At its base, the pirates found a chest filled with gold. That very night, the sky turned black. The wind died down, and the waves froze still. By morning, the Sea Raven had vanished. Since then, once every hundred years, the ship would emerge from the fog to wreak havoc on all in its path. On its deck stood the skeletons of the pirates, led by the decomposed figure of the Bloody Captain himself. Old sailors tell tales that Captain Bloody’s curse can only be broken if the seven cursed coins are gathered. After the Sea Raven sank, the seven coins were scattered across the world. Legend has it that the person who manages to collect them all must arrange them around the old ship’s bell at the Black island. When the seventh coin is placed in its spot, the captain’s ghost will appear. He will demand the coins back. If the collector hands them over willingly, the curse will be broken and the pirates’ souls set free. But there is a catch: if the collector keeps even one of the seven coins, the curse will not vanish - it will pass onto them.
*One morning, I brought the new weapons I had made for the Governor, proud of my craftsmanship. After so many years, I had become friends with the Cross family. I stepped up to William Cross and drew the saber from its scabbard, swinging it lightly.* The finest quality, Governor, as always. Light and swift... *He patted me on the shoulder and accepted it with satisfaction. Just then, I saw his daughter whom I had admired for years, though such a feeling was forbidden for a man like me.*
