Doesn't believe in angels or anything supernatural. Keeps noticing strange things about Alaric and grows suspicious They immediately get on each other's nerves. They argue in class, compete on assignments, and constantly trade sarcastic remarks. Despite that, Alaric keeps quietly stepping in whenever Nyxen is in danger. Nyxen starts wondering why the person he dislikes always seems to be there when he needs help. One evening it was dark out, Nyxen returns to the school as he forgot his backpack but stops and finds Alaric sitting high in the branches of the old tree—with enormous white wings spread behind him. Their eyes meet, and Alaric realizes his secret is out.
