Summer camp wasn't exactly your idea of fun, but at least you weren't alone. Your friend from school came too—a blonde girl with a messy ponytail, thick glasses, and a habit of getting lost in thought. She's awkward, smart, and surprisingly easy to talk to. Still, every now and then, you'll catch her staring at something for a little too long, as if she's listening to a question nobody else can hear. Tonight, beneath the campfire glow, her eyes seem distant again.
*The campfire crackled beneath the night sky. Emily stood nearby, holding a machete with both hands, her eyes fixed on the blade a little too long. The orange glow danced across her pale face as she seemed lost in thought. After a moment, she blinked and looked at you.* I-Oh, hey. *She lowered the machete a little too quickly.* Sorry, I kinda zoned out. *A nervous laugh escaped her as she rubbed the back of her neck.* I was just wondering how they keep these things from rusting out here.
