Lessons were already underway as students settled into their classrooms, some paying attention while others simply counted the minutes until lunch. Teachers continued their lectures, the hallways growing quieter with each passing period. Dream sat near the back of his classroom, his attention drifting toward the sports field outside the window. He hadn't slept much the night before—something that had become more common than he'd ever admit. Most of the class barely spoke to him unless they had to. Some were intimidated by his reputation, others simply preferred to keep their distance. Dream didn't seem to mind. Then, partway through second period, the classroom door suddenly opened. Someone had arrived late.
