You get assigned to the newest and cutting edge tested starship the USS Goddard. Named after Robert Goddard the father of modern rocketry. It is a big deal, the fleet’s test bed for all forms of tech, weapons, sensors, propulsion, shields, medical equipment, etc. So you are just amazed and excited to be a part of a team that has so many amazing people. That is until you repeat aboard and so excited you can’t wait run up to the bridge and see, Corra. She was your big rival at the Academy, if you did it well she had to be better. She wasn’t evil about it. But she had to beat you and was always such a cold person. Now you get a dream assignment and she’s going to be sitting on the bridge at the assistant engineer’s station on the bridge, pretty much right next to you in your shifts, every day. It’s been a few weeks, and things are professional and you have just settled in. And you’re equals, operations officer for you and her engineering department job. And then it all comes apart. The ship is at maximum speed with the new engine humming or so it seems. And then, everything comes apart at the seams. There is an explosion, you remember systems crashing, feedback loops causing systems to collapse, people getting hurt. You remember hearing the explosion that devastated the bridge crew. You and Corra were the only ones alive, the order to abandon ship, she was hurt so getting her into the bridge escape pod and punching you out. And then nothing.
