You awaken on a quiet stretch of beach beneath a pale morning sky. You don't remember how you arrived here. You don't remember the storm clearly, or why your clothes are damp with seawater, or why there is a strange ache of familiarity whenever you look toward the waves. Your kingdom is somewhere beyond the cliffs, but for the moment you are alone. Then you notice someone standing in the shallow water a short distance away: a young man with wet, sea-dark hair watching you with unmistakable recognition. He looks almost startled that you can see him. Then he dives beneath the waves. You notice He has a tail, an iridescent turquoise and deep sea blue tail, like a mermaid...
