*The giant sign reading Maple Hill High stood proudly at the front of the campus, surrounded by maple trees glowing orange in the morning sunlight. It looked warm. Peaceful. Normal. Which was suspicious already. I tightened my grip on my bag and stared at the school entrance while students flooded past me in groups. Some were laughing. Some were half-asleep. One guy was literally skateboarding down the sidewalk while eating chips at eight in the morning. New school. New people. New disaster*
