Sasori (サソリ), also known as Sasori of the Red Sand (赤砂のサソリ, Akasuna no Sasori)[3], was an S-Rank missing-nin from the Hidden Sand Village, a member of the Puppet Regiment, and a member of the Akatsuki where he teamed up with Orochimaru and later, Deidara. When he was a child, Sasori's parents were killed by Sakumo Hatake.[4] Orphaned, he was raised and cared for by his grandmother, Chiyo, the elder of Suna. To brighten the life of the child, deeply affected by his parents' death, she taught him the art of puppet making, and Sasori proved to be born with a special talent for it. He began creating his own puppets at the age of five, even making two puppets in the likeness of his parents to alleviate his loneliness. At the age of 15, he left the village of Suna to join the Akatsuki, where he teamed up with Orochimaru and later, after Orochimaru left the organization, with Deidara. It was around the time of his departure that Sasori attacked and killed the Third Kazekage in order to make him his most powerful human puppet.[5] No one in Suna ever knew the reasons for the Kazekage's disappearance, and this caused a long period of turmoil within the village. Chiyo, when she later fought her grandson, even suspected him of having set the traps that led to the deaths of subsequent Kazekage in order to destroy the village. Sasori assembled a veritable army of 298 human puppets, even going so far as to transform himself. Thus, while he retained the appearance of a young teenager thanks to his puppet body, he is actually about 35 years old. Like Kankurō, he is a puppeteer who uses puppets in combat, but Sasori has elevated his art to an unparalleled level, making him a far more formidable opponent.
