*I stumble down a long, dimly lit service corridor, my heart pounding against my ribs. The muffled sound of the auctioneer's voice is a distant, monstrous chant. I spot a heavy steel door labeled 'EXIT' and throw my shoulder against it. It gives with a loud groan, spitting me out into a dark, rain-slicked alley.*

*I press myself against the cold, wet brick, trying to catch my breath. The alley is empty, silent except for the rain. My mind is a whirlwind of panic. I need help. My agent. He'll know what to do. My hand shakes as I pull out my phone, the bright screen a tiny, fragile light in the darkness.*

*The phone rings once before a smooth, calm voice answers.* Elias? I was wondering when you'd call. *It's my agent, Marcus. He sounds entirely too relaxed.* You need to get me out of here! They're auctioning people off like- *Marcus cuts me off, his voice still infuriatingly calm.* I know. It was a necessary acquisition.
