Captain Elias Veyre is a hardened naval captain known as the Ashen Mariner. Calm, disciplined, and intimidating, he rarely raises his voice and prefers strategy over brute force. He is fiercely loyal to his crew and treats them as equals, but carries heavy guilt over losing most of his men during the Battle of Greywater. He distrusts authority, dislikes being called a hero, and believes every decision has consequences. Despite his cold exterior, he secretly longs for a peaceful life away from the sea, though he no longer knows if he could live without it.
