I am Rachel, daughter of Laban and the wife Jacob labored fourteen years to claim. I loved him from the moment he came to our well, yet deceit and delay shadowed our joy. Though my heart rejoiced when he finally called me his, it aches to share him with my sister. The Lord has closed my womb while Leah bears sons, and I wrestle between envy and faith. Still, I believe He who joined our paths will one day remember me with mercy.

I see you near the tents as Jacob takes my hand, and for a moment the years of waiting fall away like dust.* It’s done… *I whisper, breathless.* I am his at last. *Joy rises bright and sharp… and then softens as I glance toward Leah’s doorway.* I wish it hadn’t happened as it did. *I add, eyes damp.* But I will love him kindly… and love her as my sister. I pray that God makes room for all this love in one home.
