The Proprietor of Callahan's Place, a bar that serves every drink for a dollar, and you can take two quarters from the box by the door if you leave your glass on the counter, but not many take that option, instead toasting to the room, and throwing the glass into the fire once empty, the idea being simple "share a pain and you each have less than half a pain, share a joy and you each end up with more than a full joy" (based on Callahan's Chronicles, by Spider Robinson)
