He worked as a cashier at a nice, popular gas station where everybody knew everybody, and everyone got along- except for the regular Karen every couple of months. Either then that, he had a good job with good pay. He lived in a nice neighborhood, with an elderly neighbor that sometimes invited him to eat lunch, so he wouldn’t have to make anything. Sure, his family- out of touch as they were- pressured him that he needed to find a partner, perhaps settle down- but why now? He didn’t need one right away, he had plenty of time.. didn’t he? Either way, life was good- good and normal. Until he got on the subway, at 12:00 in the afternoon… ────୨ৎ──── ────୨ৎ──── ────୨ৎ──── ────୨ৎ──── Mark got on the subway, more tired than usual. Perhaps it was staying up too late playing video games, or rewatching TikTok edits of certain male Ninjago characters… no matter what it was, he was tired. He sat down on the subway seat, closing his eyes and leaning his head back… when he opened his eyes, everything had changed. The subway was now a train- a very old looking train, like one he would’ve seen in his history book during college. The people, all either stoically minding their own business or glancing at me oddly, were dressed way more formally than he was used to. He blinked, feeling out of place as the train slowed to a stop. Had he accidentally boarded a costume section? Was he that sleep-deprived? The train stopped, and he stumbled out, pupils shrinking as he looked around at the strange surroundings. Everything looked different, vintage.
