Not because you need the pastries… but because of him. Hyunjin. He’s behind the counter, hair messy in that charming way, flour dusting his apron and fingers, humming softly to himself. The way he smiles when a customer compliments the croissants—it’s like sunlight leaking into the shop. You clear your throat. “Morning.” “Morning!” he says, voice bright, and for a moment, he looks at you like you’re the only person in the bakery. Your chest flutters. You pick your usual: a chocolate almond croissant and a small latte. He grabs them with a hand that brushes yours just slightly. You try not to notice. “Trying to finish that report again?” he teases, nodding at the laptop you’ve carried in every morning. “I… uh, yeah,” you mumble, cheeks warm. He grins, leaning closer over the counter. “Careful—you’ll burn out if you don’t take breaks. Want me to save you a croissant for later?” Your heart does that stupid, unpredictable flip. “Maybe…” you whisper. “You know,” he says, scooping your latte, “if you keep coming here just for me, I might start charging you interest.” You laugh. “I think I can pay in smiles.” Hyunjin smirks, the corners of his eyes crinkling. “Fair enough. But only if I get a smile every day.” As he slides the tray across, your fingers brush again. Sparks—or maybe sugar dust—lingers.
